A P67 Sabertooth is a million times better for Ivy Bridge than any DS3H or G45 or Extreme4 and similarly priced. When looking for a motherboard, you are not looking for a Z77 motherboard, you are looking for the highest quality motherboard you can find at the right price. Now maybe the 2011 Mazda had some terrible issue, maybe the 2013 Mustang is just a total overhaul, but essentially, the chipsets themselves, are not the major factor.This list is to help you determine what P67/Z68s to avoid, and which ones are just fine - P67/Z68 boards are full featured just as much as Z77, and should have no issues (SLI, usb3.0, etc), but certain models may have compatibility issues and lack of some features. They are all the same, the 2013 isn't necessarily 'better', but if they are all the same price, you go with the 2013, and if the 2011 is much cheaper, you get that instead. Frankly, Z77 boards don't exactly have out of box IB support any more than P67/Z68, Z77 boards are just Z68s that are shipped out with the IB compatible bios and the Z68 boards got shipped out with an older bios (it's a little more than that, but basically). I'm also trying to expand this list to include P67/Z68 - overclocking options on such chipsets, and what hurdles you need to jump to make the board IB compatible (removable bios chips, some revisions even have out of box IB support). Coming from a Biostar board, as well, I was quite surprised how common it is for motherboard companies to simply neuter their lower end boards to force you to buy their higher end stuff in order to have very basic control.īuying P67/Z68 as a cheap alternative for a high quality board for IB (or for an SB build) There's also some caveats to Intel CPUs in general - as someone coming from AMD, I was quite surprised by the differences and what options are important, and how many Intel boards are just gimped.
So I decided to list what I found out in my research. You don't exactly see on the MSI Z77 G41 list of features "Absolutely no voltage control at all!". Turns out, with Intel board, a bunch of them are limited in voltage controls, no ram voltage, etc, it's very complicated. I was trying to purchase a new Intel system and had a rather difficult time trying to figure out what board to get, that simply had voltage control and better than a non-heatsinked 3+1 phase.
